PERSPECTIVE AND APPROACH
Looking to the backwardness in the field of education especially among the children and women, social evils of the area, lack of awareness in the people towards their own
backwardness, prevailing poverty etc., the society named Shri Gandhi Bal Niketan
Society was established in the year 1958.
The Society have had involved support and assistance from diverse stakeholders. The traditional altruistic motivation has led to large scale donations from affluent stakeholders, which made possible establishment of several educational and other institutions.
The main objective of this society, so far, have been in the field of education, social upliftment, health, social awakening and famine relief operations etc. The society believes in voluntary and participatory social action. People's participation at all levels in all activities of the society, has been the cardinal principle of the society.
The activities of the society reflects the needs of the people of the area and their specific disabling conditions. The society has focused on the deprived categories of the people of the area and has been striving for creating institutions, awareness and aspirations, whereby the conditions of people could improve, capacities strengthened and motivation
heightened.
Thus the echo of Shri Gandhi Bal Niketan Society has been to work with a sense of commitment, dedication and non-commercial, non- profiteering orientation. A band of like-minded people have served the cause of the area in diverse fields especially, the women and worker sections.
Educational and Social Services of the Society
The activities undertaken by the organisation in the field of Education and Social Services through public participation can be enumerated as under:
(A) Education
The society with people's participation has been instrumental in creating a network of educational institutions right from Primary to College and Technical level, both for boys and girls. Thus, the society has strived to contribute in fulfilling the felt needs of the people of the area. The office-bearers, functionaries and supporters of the society belong to this area and as such, have been direct contact and positive image amongst the stakeholders.
The society has a team of voluntary workers having a background of educational, medical and social work. Religious persons, the business and industrial houses and philanthropists are amongst its supporters. The Society has been instrumental and acted as a catalytic agent in developing a number of educational and technical institutions in the area.

(B) Weaker Section
The Society is continuously devoting its services for the direct benefit and betterment of handicapped/disabled persons with the participation and assistance of the people and other institutions like
ALMICO, MAHAVIR VIKLANG SAMITI etc.
Churu is a district having climate typically. Its temperature ranges from 49 degree Celsius in summer to 0 degree Celsius in winter. It is very difficult for the poor and homeless
people to survive in the winter. The people due to economic backwardness have no proper places to live and cloths to wear. In such circumstances, the Society with the active participation with various industrial houses and Trusts along with the local public, provide blankets and cloths to needy people. Night-shelters are also constructed so that the needy and the poor persons could survive. The Society has also cared for the welfare of the
aged, the women and the destitute.
Needy women have been provided assistance with the co-operation and collaboration through sister institutions, other philanthropists and the government.
(C) Famine and Droughts
Famine is the regular phenomenon of the district and people especially, the small and marginal farmers, scheduled castes and other backward classes are the main victims. They require food, folder for cattle and work in such adverse circumstances. The employment is provided by the government but food grains like
bajara, wheat etc., are being provided by this society with the collaboration of various industrial houses, charitable Trusts, NGO's
and local persons. The folder depots were also arranged at the nominal rates for their livestock's. The society has been instrumental in benefiting thousands of famine stricken persons and their live-stocks in the past.
(D) Poverty Alleviation
The Society is district coordinator for the poverty eradication world level HUNGER PROJECT ( An International Project) for Churu District. The basic aim of the project are to create awareness and fulfill the felt needs through capacity building with public participation.
(E) Sharing of Ideas
To achieve the main objectives, the society regularly organises meetings, workshops and seminars on the themes related to education, social evils and elimination of gender
discrimination. Prominent persons of the respective fields are invited to deliver lectures and
hold discussions. This has been a regular feature of the Society since its inception.
(F) Social Assessment
The World Bank has associated with the Society in two important Social Assessment Projects viz, District Poverty Initiative Project (DPIP) and District Primary Education Project
(DPEP). The Society has completed both the assignment with great prophecy which reflects the capability of a grassroots
organisation.
(G) Social Help
In every national calamity the Society do its best to help the needy brothers and sisters of the nation. For this Society motivate each and every person of the town to come forward and do their best. For example when cyclone destroyed the life in Orissa in the year 2000 the Society collected the cloths and blankets of worth more than 5o Lacs from the town and distributed among the cyclone hit needy people. In the year 2002 Society collected wheat (1 kg from 1 person) and send one truck of wheat to help the people of drought affected Barmer district. Both the above examples reflects the approach and working pattern of the Society.
