SHRI CHAMPA LAL UPADHYAY - FOUNDER
SECRETARY
A prominent and dedicated social worker of Churu district who has devoted his life mainly in the fields of education - women and child education, eradication of social evils and upliftment of deprived classes of the society i.e. women, scheduled caste, disabled/handicapped persons, widows, old age person etc. It is devotion to the cause of social upliftment of the people that he commands considerable respect from the people of this part of the country. He is the founder of the Society in 1958 and lives a simple life and derives considerable satisfaction from the self-less service for Independence from hunger, malnutrition, illiteracy and ill-health. His contribution in helping the poor during the times of recurring famines and droughts has been commendable.
A unique aspect of his voluntary action is that through his patience and devotion to the social cause, he is able to persuade the industrial houses/families, philanthropists having their family roots in the local area to come forward and donate for the creation of social infrastructure in an extremely harsh climatic environment in
arid areas of Rajasthan. Having mobilised the resources and commitment, he prefers to only oversee the implementation part. The effective implementation is done by either the donor himself of a separate agency of the local people.
This way, he is able to put his energies in new initiatives.
He had initiated the action research work for the Society by undertaking the two high profile World Bank projects of conducting the Social Assessment. While working as the Chief
Coordinator for the World Bank assisted DPIP & DPEP Projects, he had established the name of the Society in the field of action-oriented research. He is the District
Coordinator of the HUNGER PROJECT (An International Project aiming at eradication of poverty through capacity building and awareness with public participation and contribution). His contribution as member of different district level committees viz. Lok Adalat, Public Grievances Committee, District Industrial Development Committee etc. has been noteworthy.
Being a man of integrity with high moral values, several Trusts have reposed confidence in him and his suggestions have always carried weight in mobilisation of Trust fund for various welfare and development activities in the area. He is a man of masses, who knows the pulse of the people and their needs. Recognising that apart from creating the education infrastructure and strengthening the social capacity, improvement in the quality of life of the rural masses requires several other initiatives, Mr. Upadhyay has played an important role in several other forms. The Government of Rajasthan had nominated him as a member & Vice-Chairman of Rajasthan Khadi and Gramodyog Board to get his valuable suggestions for the new income-generating programs for the weaker sections of the society. As Chairman of Khadi Gramodyog Vikas Sansthan, JHAJJHU (Bikaner), he has created employment opportunities for the rural people.
